Subject: Suddenly no NFS client and no ssh
I tried to mount a share that I have mounted many times in the past and
it failed.  I tried to ssh into the server and ssh didn't ask for my
password, it just continued to blink and never progressed in any way.

Then, I looked at the nfs/client service and found that rpc/keyserv was
disabled:

$ svcs -d nfs/client
STATE          STIME    FMRI
disabled       11:46:39 svc:/network/rpc/keyserv:default
online         11:46:42 svc:/milestone/network:default
online         11:46:45 svc:/milestone/name-services:default
online         11:46:46 svc:/network/rpc/bind:default
online         11:46:47 svc:/network/nfs/mapid:default
online         11:46:47 svc:/network/nfs/cbd:default
online         11:46:47 svc:/network/nfs/nlockmgr:default
online         11:46:51 svc:/network/rpc/gss:default

So later...

# svcadm clear rpc/keyserv
# svcadm enable rpc/keyserv

# svcs -x rpc/keyserv
svc:/network/rpc/keyserv:default (RPC encryption key storage)
State: maintenance since Sun Oct 09 13:03:38 2005
Reason: Start method exited with $SMF_EXIT_ERR_CONFIG.
    See: http://sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-KS
    See: keyserv(1M)
    See: /var/svc/log/network-rpc-keyserv:default.log
Impact: This service is not running.

# svcs -l rpc/keyserv
fmri         svc:/network/rpc/keyserv:default
name         RPC encryption key storage
enabled      true
state        maintenance
next_state   none
state_time   Sun Oct 09 13:03:38 2005
logfile      /var/svc/log/network-rpc-keyserv:default.log
restarter    svc:/system/svc/restarter:default
contract_id
dependency   require_all/restart svc:/network/rpc/bind (online)
dependency   require_all/restart svc:/system/identity:domain (online)

# cat /var/svc/log/network-rpc-keyserv:default.log
[ Apr  6 23:44:21 Disabled. ]
[ Apr  6 23:44:21 Rereading configuration. ]
[ Oct  9 13:03:38 Leaving maintenance because clear requested. ]
[ Oct  9 13:03:38 Enabled. ]
[ Oct  9 13:03:38 Executing start method ("/usr/sbin/keyserv") ]
[ Oct  9 13:03:38 Method "start" exited with status 96 ]

BTW, Status 96 == SMF_EXIT_ERR_CONFIG

So, I'm not sure where to go now.  Am I even on the right track?
Thanks for reading and for any suggestions or pointers.

rpc/keyserv is only used for secure NFS.

The domainname is likely not set; keyserv requires a domainname.

Ahh, thank you.

Then I was chasing after a red herring.

It turns out that ssh -vvv is my best new friend!  Problem solved -- DNS
issue.  Sigh...

Thanks, Casper.
